Learning a foreign language is not easy for many people. There are a multitude of formats of such learning available, both on line and in other formats, such as CD's and written courses.
In my opinion a mixtures of formats need to be undertaken in order to learn a foreign language. These should consist of the following: -
1) Written material As part of the reason for learning a foreign language is to be able to understand and recognise the written word of that language, even if it is only for reasons of understanding signs and directions, it is important to have written documentation and books to learn from. In addition, most of the good course books in language will aid in the pronunciation of the language, therefore improving your reading skills.
2) Audio aids The use of audio aids, such as CD's for learning a language is also an effective method. Here again it will help with areas such as pronunciation and inflection. It also helps with understanding of differences of expressions and dialects. This is especially true if the educator whose voice is heard is a native of the language being learnt. This area of learning will also help with sentence construction and other phrasing peculiarities.
3) Personal contact There really is no substitute to holding a personal face-to-face approach with learning a foreign language. As body language plays an important part in the way that people speak and also in terms of the meaning behind the spoken word, personal tuition, where in an individual or class basis, will prove to be extremely useful in the strive towards fluency.
4) Visiting the country. If possible, a visit or visits to the country whose language one is learning can be extremely advantageous. To be able to mix with the native speakers in their own environment will enable one to achieve a more natural speech of the language. It will also speed the learning process. Generally, native speakers are more than willing to help those who are learning their language and love to assist in any way they can.
In my view a combination of all the above will prove an effective way of learning a foreign language.
