Sir Alex Ferguson recently celebrated his 20th anniversary as manager of Manchester United, and this prompted many to come forward to claim that he is the greatest manager English football has ever seen.

There are good managers and great managers, and without a doubt Ferguson falls into the second category. But is he the best ever? I don't think so.

Yes, he has won many, many trophies during his time at Old Trafford, including eight league titles and one Champions League.

Let's compare him with the legendary Liverpool manager Bob Paisley. Paisley won 6 league titles and 3 European Cups in just 9 years. That is nothing short of amazing. Ferguson won 8 league titles in 20 years, Paisley won two less than him in less than half that time. Ferguson conquered Europe just once in 20 years, Paisley did it 3 times in 9 years. At his current rate, Ferguson would need another 40 years to match Paisley's European record!

Now, I'm not saying that Ferguson's not a good manager. He's just not the best ever. Paisley is.
