How to get the most energy from common foods

Waking up in the morning with energy and a body that wants to go and be busy has been a reward for changing my eating habits. Getting to this place has taken so time, a commitment to change my eating habits, and getting back to exercising. Prior to making the changes, I had been living in an apartment without a working kitchen, I was eating out a lot. Double cheeseburgers almost daily from McDonald's, double decker tacos from Taco Bell, taco salads and double hot dogs from Sheetz, a bag of Doritos, a bag of Cheetos, New York Style Pizza on Monday nights, ice cream cones, fried chicken, chinese buffet food, Snickers bars became the mainstay of my diet for over a year. I have the pounds to prove it. Soon, I was no longer even able to wear my pants and some of my shirts showed the bulge underneath. However, I was enjoying the grease on those double cheeseburgers, and I wasn't ready to give them up. Those double cheeseburgers are really addicting. However, things had to change. I was feeling terrible.

Recently, I moved into a better apartment: a cozy, cottage apartment. Immediately, I wanted to make a change in my eating habits. My goal was to get back into shape, to look better without a belly bulge, to be able to wear my old clothes again, and to feel comfortable on dates. I decided to put into practice a technique I had used years ago. No, it was not the Master Cleanse. Although that seems tempting, I know the Master Cleanse is essentially a fast. After a fast, there is always the feast, where one eats all the food one has been deprived of, and essentially undermines the fast.

One of my best friends over the years is a former nurse who really knows nutrition. She is thoroughly into organic eating. Years ago, she encouraged me to change my eating habits, she shared some recipes, and took me shopping for organic produce and other goods. Some organic foods are pricey, so I decided eating organic was out of my budget. However, eating healthy was not. I practiced what my friend had preached. I ate bran for breakfast. I used her recipe for bran muffins and enjoyed them. I ate salads for lunch. Mostly, spinach because I love spinach. I would vary the toppings on the spinach salads. Sometimes, I added broiled fish, sometimes, I added roasted chicken. Whenever, I was hungry for a snack, I reached for fresh fruit or fresh vegetables such as carrots or celery with peanut butter. I also exercised. I ran almost five miles a day six days a week. I mowed the lawn with a push
