Christianity: Is the US due for a Revival
America is in need of a spiritual revival and a turning back to Christian doctrine and moral standards held in The Bible.
It is a general consensus among the Christian community that the spiritual and intellectual life of America is seriously degraded. We have been more moral decay in the past fifty years. Since television has been a part of the American household, we have seen a steady decline in morality. We have seen an increase in crime and in the number of prisoners. We have seen sexual predators increase in such alarming numbers that it is commonplace to see them on a regular basis involved with child molestations. In the early 1950s, television shows like I Remember Mama, Father Knows Best, and Ozzie and Harried, or I Love Lucy were the kind of wholesome entertainment the family could enjoy together. We have moved up to the 21st century with more materialism, greed, dysfunctional children, sexual immorality, to name a few of our problems.
Manifestation of Dysfunctions in US
Since the Supreme Court decisions, Roe v. Wade, 1973 when not-yet-born babies protection laws were struck down, abortion became another method of birth control. This is particularly heinous. The problem does not stop here. The breakdown in values and basic integrity is altogether pervasive in scope. America holds the distinction of being one of the most prosperous countries in the world; it also holds the distinction of being one of the most immoral countries. Secularism has now raised its' ugly head. We want God, prayer, anything about faith, taken out of the public domain. The founding fathers set the country up trusting in God. Now we feel that He is no longer needed in any area of our existence. Divine creation if taught is treated as a peripheral theory. Evolution, on the other hand, can be taught as the only plausible explanation for our existence. If you examine the scripture found in Romans 1:18, which reads as follows: (18)"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness."
Expectations
God is no longer the center of our lives in America. Here is what II Timothy 3: 1-5 has to say about the state we are presently in. It reads: (1) This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (4) Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;(5) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. This scripture alone describes the times we are presently living in. It also tells us God will not allow it to go on indefinitely. These corruptible practices have filtered down to our children with devastating effects we are presently reaping. Children are killing each other in the schoolhouse instead of receiving an academic education. Drugs and alcohol are destroying their minds and bodies. History bears records that disaster is the natural consequence of such self-indulgence, sin-sick hedonism. It can spell the death of a nation. We should all pray for revival in America.
One added note. CNN commentator Lou Dobbs, had two evangelical church-leaders on his news report. These men, as I said were evangelicals but not Republicans. They have written a book called "Personal Faith, Public Policy," written by Bishop Harry R. Jackson, and Tony Perkins. This seems a good place to start, putting God in the middle of our politics.
