NOVEMBER NIGHTS

It should never have happened least not in that way
So much in your thoughts you're unable to say
But love's such a weird thing makes your feelings turn raw
Strange when you think how it happens at all

Perhaps it's just the weather or memories of being a child
You walk in the street beneath the foggy lights and emotions just run wild

And it's a cold dark November night

Your eyes feel so tired so you turn out the light
You turn your thoughts to him you remember his ways
And you find yourself longing for those summer days

You might be out walking or driving your car
But there ain't no denying just how lonely you are
The season stays with you, lord it gets to your soul
And you just don't remember how it happens at all

You've good friends by the dozen; to some you can speak your mind
But when your facing up to it there ain't no words that you can find

And it's a cold dark November night

You see your reflection but you don't recognize
The pain and the sadness you see in your eyes

And you find you've forgotten all the good things you had

But right now it seems as likely as walking back in time
