Different people have different reasons for running away. Some people run from feelings and emotions. Some people run away to gain a new experience. Some people run away just to get away from the pressures of everyday life. Then there are the desperate people who run to save their very lives. Everyone at some point and time in their lives run away.
If you took a survey and asked different people from different races, backgrounds and religions, you would be amazed at the sheer number of people who have run away. Growing up in a small town, I saw this quite often and actually experienced this at one point in my life.
The most difficult thing to run away from, in my opinion, is abuse. It does not matter if the abuse is being brought on by peers, parents, lovers or even your significant other. It does not matter if the abuse is physical, emotional, sexual or psychological, it is abuse.
There have been thousands of reasons over the years as to why people run away. I have heard very young children say that they are running away because their mommy and daddy want them to do their chores or eat their veggies. I have heard teenagers say that it is because the kids at school are mean and hateful. That their boyfriend/girlfriend has broken up with them. In our teenage years, with the hormones raging, every aspect of our lives seem to determine whether or not we stay or we go.
It is very difficult for a sixteen year old to make it on their own, especially if the person that they are running from is the person that gave them life. From my own personal experience, my mother was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I ran away when I was sixteen after having a pistol put in my face because I refused to clean a mess that she had made. I had just had enough. There is no other way to describe the feeling except that I was sick of dealing with it day in and day out.
Even in adulthood there are often times when people choose to run away. There is always a feeling of loneliness and desperation. Our first instinct is to run, to get as far away as possible. Some people do not feel that they have this choice because they have put themselves in the situation that they are in.
There is always a choice in life, and sometimes when we run away we make the wrong choice. In other instances, like in my case, it was the right choice. No one can decide for you, it is your choice and your choice alone. When you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, you will know what your choice is.
