Prom on a budget, I know all about that. My family had four girls and I attended prom all four years of high school. The amount some people pay for their prom dresses just surprises me. I know that every girl wants to make prom a magical night but there are ways to make it special without putting your parents in to bankruptcy. Guys have it easy and cheap all they need is a tux, some flowers, and some money for dinner. Girls on the other hand need a dress, shoes, hair, jewelry, makeup, and a purse.
Here are some of the ways that my family and I saved money.
1) Shop around for dresses at resale shops. I never paid over thirty four dollars for a dress. Ross has great dresses that have been discontinued at big departments stores for cheap. My thirty four dollar dress was originally three hundred and forty at JC Penny.
2) Borrow a dress from an older friend. The same people who went to their prom more than likely will not be attending yours and if they do they are likely not to realize it.
3) Buy your jewelry from Walmart or even Claire's. You are more than likely not going to wear it again so why spend a large amount on it.
4) Go through your mom's or Grandmother's Jewelry boxes, You are sure to find some unique jewelry that no one else will have. Polish it up and no one will be able to tell!
5) Buy your shoes at Walmart. They have a wide variety of nice dress shoes.
6) Again you can borrow heels from a friend. No one will remember they wore them a few years earlier.
7) If your a guy and need a tux try Men's warehouse. They have Tuxes cheap and you can rent or buy them.
8) Don't try to go fancy with your tux. A simple black tux with a vest to match your date makes a big statement.
9) Have your hair done at the local beauty school. They normally only charge around twenty dollars for an updo.
10) Your mom is sure to have a Beauty Control lady or a Mary Kay lady, Ask her to do your make up. Get a group of your friends together and have her do all your make up and each chip in five or ten dollars.
These may seem like small ways to save money but believe me they add up.
