Poetry: Living fully

When I'm a Man

When I'm a man I used to say
I'll still have fun and rule the day
I won't be coarse and spread dismay
Or worry bout the bills to pay

I wouldn't fret the little things
Like daily bread that money brings
Or gas and cars and fender dings
Not even low lead when it pings

I wouldn't moan when tennis shoes
Cost twice as much as union dues
And when inflation filled the news
I'd never get the budget blues

The grocery store would still be fun
With everything to fill a bun
My shopping cart would weigh a ton
I'd buy enough for everyone

I'd stand in line like a wealthy Greek
And at the tally never peak
The awesome sum would seem quite meek
I'd make ten times that in a week

I'd stay at home and play all day
Watching sailboats in the bay
With sand and sea and my own way
When I'm a man I used to say
