MOM, DAUGHTER, AND BOYFRIEND
"Mom, Josh is on his way over. We're going to the matinee with the rest of the gang and then hang-out at the mall for awhile."
"Who's Josh? " Boy friend of the week?"
"Ha, ha. Very funny."
"Have I met him?"
"No, he just moved here from California. He's way cool."
"You know the rules. You are not dating someone I haven't meet."
"But"
"No 'buts' about it."
"He's Katie's cousin and you know her."
"True. You can date Katie."
"MOM!"
"Don't roll those big brown eyes at me."
"WHATEVER!"
"What did you say?"
"I'm sorry. I forgot."
"You better not forget again. The next time you will be grounded for a week."
"I don't understand what the big deal is about that word."
"It's not the word. It's the attitude behind it."
"WHATEV....uh, I mean, okay I won't say it again."
"Good. Did you clean your room?"
"I'll do it when I get back."
"That's what you said last Saturday and the Saturday before that. It never got done. You will clean it before you leave the house today."
"But, Mom, Josh will be here any minute."
"Then you better get busy. When Josh arrives it'll give me a chance to meet him and decide if it's okay for you to go out with him. "
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"Doing what to you?"
"You know what I mean!"
"No dear, I'm afraid I don't know what it is you think I'm doing' to you."
"You are always so picky.....so strict. You NEVER let me do things with my friends."
"Now you know that isn't true. I don't need to remind you of all the time you spend with your friends."
"Then why can't I be with them today?"
"You can have fun with them right after you clean your room."
"But, mom.."
"The more time you spend moaning about this the longer it will be before you can join your friends. Josh isn't going to want to wait around forever. You might want to get busy."
" I HATE YOU!"
"I know, dear."
"Hello. You must be Josh."
"Yes, ma'am."
" I'm Joy's mother. I'm glad to finally meet you."
"I'm glad to meet you, too."
" Joy is running a little late. Come into the kitchen. I've got cookies in the oven. Maybe you would like to have some while you wait."
"Great."
"Have a seat. Make yourself comfortable. Would you like some milk with your cookies?'
"Sure. Thanks. These are good. Chocolate Chip are my favorite."
"Joy tells me you're Katie's cousin."
"Yes, ma'am. Katie's mom and my mom are sisters."
"Irene is your mother?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"How about that? I went to school with her."
"Neat."
"I understand you recently moved here from California."
"Yes, ma'am. My grandparents aren't getting any younger and Mom decided she wanted to be near them. Dad applied for a transfer with his company and got it. So here we are."
"How do you like it here?"
"I didn't think I would, but then I met Joy and now I like it just fine."
"Mom? Where are you? I've finished my room."
"Out here in the kitchen, dear, with Josh."
"Hi, Josh. Sorry to keep you waiting. Mom made me clean my room."
"It's okay. Your mom and I were just talking. She knows my mom."
"You're kidding."
"Actually, we were good friends in school. She moved to California right after we graduated and I lost touch with her."
"That's great, isn't it Josh?"
"Why don't the two of you run along now and meet your friends. I'll call Josh's parents. Maybe we can all have pizza together tonight."
"I LOVE YOU, MOM"
"I know, dear."
