Talking to your kids about sex and drugs is the most important thing you will ever do for them. By talking to them about the dangers and consequences of both you will help to prevent them from entering into uncomfortable and dangerous situations.
As much as we would like to live in a world where our kids stay innocent, pure babies forever we can not. Times change and they will eventually have to venture out into the world without you by their side. There will be peer pressure and temptations along the way; by talking with them about sex and drugs you give them the ability to stand up for themselves and refuse the temptations.
Educate them on the dangers of drugs before someone else does. Let them know where you stand on the issue and why you feel that it is wrong. You can tell them not to do something all day long but they will want a reason. Be honest with them and allow them to be honest with you about how much they know.
Allow them to ask you questions when you discuss sex with them. It is much better if they hear it from you than from the kids in their class. Sex is not something that should be taken lightly; it has its consequences. There are sexually transmitted diseases and the risk of pregnancy.
Your kids should be well aware of these risks. They should know how to protect themselves should they not be able to resist the temptation. Condoms when properly used will help to protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Birth control options are something that your daughters should be made aware of.
Talking to your sons about bearing responsibility for their actions by going over the different outcomes can be helpful in getting them to be the guy that settles for the kiss at the door at the end of the night. Talking to your daughter will help her to respect herself enough to make the guy she dates settles for a kiss at the door.
Talking to your kids about sex and drugs will help them to have enough confidence to come to you when trouble arises. They will turn to you when faced with tough situations and they will feel comfortable calling you in the night to come get them when they end up places they do not want to be.
The importance of talking to your kids about sex and drugs is the line of communication is open and they will feel secure coming to you about anything.
