Many of us are taught to pray in certain ways. Jesus gave us a guideline for prayer we call "The Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:5-12). This prayer is designed to help you get comfortable with speaking to God. It is not how the words are said, but what is said and how sincere you are when you say them. Not all prayer must be exactly along these guidelines word for word. I hope to give you an insight into how to be comfortable with prayer and to help you see how it can easily blend into your daily life.
Prayer is more than asking God for help or thanking him for your blessings. It is communication with God. He is our Heavenly Father. Our earthly fathers protect us and guide us. We learn the building blocks of strength from our father. Our dad will give us advice gained from his wisdom and experiences. Most of us will not hesitate to sit on the back porch with our dad and discuss things that we are struggling with. Who is more wise and experienced than our Heavenly Father?
God is our best friend. Our friends open our eyes to new possibilities and give advice as well. They give us a shoulder to cry on and cheer for us when we strive toward a goal. When we are depressed, our friends give us hope. Our friends help us when we are in need. We only need to ask for it. God shows us new possibilities through faith in Him and reading his word. He gives us his shoulder to lend us strength. God cheers and supports us when we strive toward a positive goal. Dedicate all that you do to God and he will see that you are successful.
"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."
(Philippians 4:13 NAS)
"All things are possible to him who believes"
(Mark 9:23 NAS)
"He who gives attention to the word will find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord"
(Proverbs 16:20)
"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight"
(Proverbs 3:6 NAS)
We will pick up the phone and call a friend at the drop of a hat. We will hold lengthy conversations, sometimes to talk about how exciting this is or how we are bothered by something. We ask for advice and guidance. Many powerful conversations are held while driving down the road with your friend at your side. We also talk to ourselves. Some of us speak in our heads, while others feel comfortable being vocal. This often also takes place in our cars. Keep an open line to God. There is no need to end a prayer. Speak to him as you drive like a companion riding with you. Speak a word of random acknowledgment as if you just passed
