For me, the movie "Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy" is the best comedy for some time. The actors are all on top of their game, and the lines are pure gold, with Ron Burgundy himself surely passing into the annals of greatest film characters of our time. With "a voice to make a Wolverine Purr and suits that make Sinatra look like a hobo", Ron Burgundy is at the very top of his profession. As lead anchor of the number one rated Channel Four news team things have never looked better, and with the backup of Champ Kind on sport, Brian Fantana as roving reporter and Brick Tamland on weather it seems nothing can break up this cosy cartel. The intrepid four are inseparable socially as well, with no party a hit if they are not in attendance, women want him Men want to be him - yup, it's fair to say that the life of lead anchor is treating Ron Burgundy rather well. Enter Veronica Corningstone, a feisty and ambitious newswoman with designs on Rons` position as lead anchor. In the male dominated world of television of that era Ron sees no threat in a mere woman and sets about wooing Ms Corningstone by any means necessary, after all, what woman could resist those rugged looks topped by a hairstyle straight from a Vidal Sassoon brochure and a moustache to tickle any womans` fancy!
Ron Burgundy: "I wanna say something. I'm gonna put it out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back. I want to be on you"
But it seems Ms Corningstone is part of a rare breed immune to the charms of Ron Burgundy, and despite his finest efforts he falls short in his quest to romance her. To make matter worse Veronica soon gains a reputation as a fine newswoman dedicated to the job, and this doesn't go unnoticed by the station hierarchy. Just when he should be raising his game to counteract Ms Corningstones` abilities Ron continues blindly in his attempts to win fair maiden relying on the renowned aphrodisiacal powers of the jazz flute to help his bidding. The remainder of the channel four news team try to warn Ron that he's taken his eye off the ball, not least when he blows out the monthly ritual of the news teams pancake breakfast to be with Veronica! And despite some worrying confrontations and name calling from the other news teams of the area he simply won't listen - It seems Ron Burgundy is risking his very position as the man who tells the truth to San Diego every evening, just to get close to Veronica!
Brick Tamland: "I ate fibreglass insulation. It wasn't
