Choosing between being clever or being good-looking

To be good-looking in your younger years is a blessing, while one could hope to become clever as the looks start to fade. Looks are never permanent, while the mind doesn't seem to deteriorate for quite some time. The way it seems, good-looking may land the girl, while cleverness gets her to stick around. This only seems to work, however, if you are blessed with both qualities. Not many modern day individuals have either of them, let alone both.

Where is being good-looking going to get anyone? Granted, if you want to be a celebrity or a model, it almost seems mandatory. But, ask yourself, how do these celebrities and models look without the plastic surgery, the make-up, and the airbrushed photos? Ah. So, if you are already clever, and you wish to be good-looking as well, it is simple to become so. Modern technology has made it possible to look however it is that you wish to look.

Being clever, however, is only ever beneficial. To be clever is to be highly intelligent and bright. Who wouldn't wish to be intelligent? For example, look at Bill Gates. He is far from good-looking but he wants for nothing. The man has everything his heart could ever desire: money, fame, a wife. And he has done so without being handsome or charming. Only cleverness has got him to where he surely wants to be, one of the richest men in this country, or even the world.

Most presidents of our own United States fail to be good-looking, but they have the most fame, the most power, and the most influence. The presidents get body guards, limousines, helicopters, the finest of anything that money can buy. They also seem to have as many women as they so choose. If a presidential election was based on being good-looking, where would that leave this country?

So, the basis of whether a person would like to be clever or good-looking seems to be completely dependent upon their goals and priorities. If his/her goal is to be the most popular in high school, the prom king or queen, and captain of the cheerleading squad or football team, then, chances are, that person would rather be good-looking. If his/her goal is to become a doctor, a president, or anyone else with a life that has meaning, he/she should depend more so on the cleverness.
