Poetry: When you look at me

When you look at me, I wonder what you see?
What could it be that makes you look at me.
Is it the years worn that now swarm upon my face?
Is it a life now traveled and beginning to unravel?
Or do you see, in me, a future image of you to be?

Yes I am old now, readying to take life's final bow.
There is still a lot I know and If you ask I will show.
If questions you should ask about the recent past.
I have answers first hand, when the worst shook our land.
I can tell you when I met Elvis and shook his hand.

I can tell you that I cried the day JFK died.
I can tell you I watched Armstrong on the moon.
I can tell you of outhouses, party line, and when,
The world faced crisis that could have ment our doom.
So when you look at me, you are looking at history.

Now when I look at you I wonder what you will do.
Will you remember what I say and still believe in God's way,
Or will you go another way that will cause you hell to pay.
So look at me again and try to remember all that I say.
Because, someday, someone, somewhere, will look your way.

    What is it you see
As you glance over at me
Am I everything I wish to be
    Lovely, wild, careless and free

    Am I, to you, simply

I wonder can you see when you look at me,
Can you see what lies within,
Or do you see only what you want to see,
