How to organize a free spaying and neutering clinic

In the united states a cat or dog is euthanized in a shelter every eight seconds, a statistic that sadly is both shocking and accurate. A small portion of these animals are
sick or injured but the vast majority are simply the product of a lack of proper care and
maintenance. The United States and it's various humane societies spend over $1 billion each year due to the over populace of it's domestic bred animals.

Combating these figures is not a difficult task, it's a simple as having your pets spayed or neutered in order to prevent their natural need to procreate. Every year the United States
holds a national Spay Day. This event takes place every year usually on the last Tuesday of February. It was created by the DDAL(Doris Day Animal League) in 1995. In it's first thirteen years this nation wide event composed of volunteers, animal welfare professionals, business owners, veterinarians and their staffs have given their time and resources to spay or neuter animals. Their work has resulted in an estimated 1,387,000 pets having been spayed/neutered and prevented millions of animal births saving countless taxpayer dollars and accounts of animal suffering.

The best way to organize one of these events is to contact your local veterinarians and rally support by asking for their volunteer efforts and the use of their facilities in order to host such an event. You can also contact the Humane Society of the United States at http://www.hsus.org/ and volunteer your services to organize a station for Spay day. Another option is to seek out your local veterinarian school and Agricultural colleges, the students there are often in need of practice for their future careers and under the supervision of their instructors spay and neuter pets for free. Contact these instructors and see if they would participate in an event hosted by yourself and other volunteers within your community.
Financial assistance may be needed in procuring areas to hold the event as well as the tools needed, so fundraising may also be required. A Pet can be a loving addition to any home but also a great responsibility, so please do your part to keep the down the pet population and end the suffering of our furry friends.
