Sabbath was his name. He was the offspring of Sadie, a poodle, and Abigal, my niece's black dachshund. Sabbath was ours for nine full years and as my daughter said one day, "Mom, you need to do something about Sabbath. He thinks he's human." I laughed. He was, indeed, one spoiled dog but very pretty. His hair was champagne and curled almost down to his toes.
It was so hilarious that Sabbath always knew when I was running a bath for him. I often wondered how he knew? I mean, we all took a shower or bath every night but he just KNEW when the bath was for him. He would run under the dining table, scrunch down, and look up at me with big eyes like he was saying, "Not me, you're not." If I reached for him, he would dodge and streak down the hall to the first open bedroom door and dart in there. But, he knew that I was gonna catch him so I don't know why he played this game.
Sabbath took a liking to me. I guess 'cause I would take him for a a ride and let him hang his head out the window. In fact, every time he heard my car keys jangle, he would get so excited, he would jump almost to my shoulders. He always slept with me in my bed. He would start off at the bottom of the bed, wait 'til I got to sleep, and when I awoke in the morning, his head would be on one of the pillows, just like a human.

We really were having a good time but everyone was leaving. He wanted to see my townhouse? so I told him okay. We drove up and Sabbath was all over us, he was so happy to see me. The young man told me it was about time he got back to the hotel and Sabbath was intent on going. I told him no but the young man insisted I bring him. So, Sabbath went with me to take him back. It was really an enjoyable evening and I'm glad Sabbath was there.
Then, one Christmas, my daughter's boyfriend gave her a poodle. Good grief! He was the stubbornest thing I had ever tried to manage. Chester was his name. He and Sabbath were okay if I took them out for a walk together. But, if I took Chester alone, he pulled on the leash as if saying, "I'll let you know where I want to go." Dragging me here and there.
Sabbath was used to going out by himself so one day, I let Chester go with him. They would run around the neighborhood which was a circle. Sabbath came back by himself and I went into a panic. I searched
