by making a charitable donation or by seeking employment with the organization. If you're a student, you can apply for the Greenpeace Organizing Term, which is a semester of activism training for young people.
You can also find local organizations that are working to help the environment. The Texas Campaign for the Environment, for example, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization which works to resolve local and state environmental problems. They are committed to keeping Texans informed and encouraging them to take action to protect their environment. The TCE has offices in Austin and in Dallas. They protect Texas by helping to pass resolutions in local precincts. They also organize letter writing campaigns to government officials.
Be sure to check your city and state to see what organizations are active in supporting and protecting the environment. Whether you live in the city or in the country, on the mainland or on an island, there is probably a local group that you can become part of.
There are also everyday things you can do around the house, office and yard to lessen your impact on the planet. For example, actively recycle all your paper, cardboard, metal, glass and plastic household waste. Avoid using pesticides when they're not really necessary. Use vinegar and baking soda for household cleaning. Purchase recycled products such as recycled printer paper and toilet paper. Buy local and organic produce. Get a tune-up for your car. Consider biking, walking or taking a bus to nearby destinations. This is just a fraction of the small changes you can make which can help the planet.
If we all do our part to protect Mother Earth, we can make a difference.
