Reflections: What America needs

A Leader of the People United

He never removed his suit jacket while he was in the Oval Office. He gave great thought to his actions and the consequences that his decisions would bring to Americans that were both good and ill. He was a true American and a truly exceptional Man. During his eight years in the White House, he was both greatly loved and greatly hated. There was at least one assassination attempt on his life early in his Presidency. I watched in live awe as his protectors, those that were willing to die for him; tackled him and as he waved that he was unharmed. Tears welled in my young eyes at the mere thought that harm could come to him. I was in love from the first time that I heard him speak and saw his jolly expression, the twinkling in his eyes as well as the conviction in his voice:

He was Ronald Wilson Regan, President.

No one can argue his wondrous accomplishments; the end of the Cold War, The imagery of the Berlin Wall crashing down, His cries to Gorbachev, His tireless meetings with his enemies; both big and small. He wanted what was best for the American farmer, to trade their goods to the world, without compromising our efforts, He wanted everyday people to know of the ongoing and tireless fight against Communism and those that would have it take over the world, he wanted us to be one.

Today, even in death, he wears the title of the Greatest American President, by both his ardent supporters and his nemesis' alike. Why?

He is respectable beyond compare; he never once sullied his name or the title of President with scandal. He was an extremely dedicated husband and father who lived the life of the Patriot and bore the seriousness of his responsibility like a shield. The weights of his decisions he wore for all to see and his scars were in his words when he spoke to his fellow Americans. We knew that he was sincere and even when he joked we understood his back was strong and that we could rely upon him to carry us through.

Where have all the Cowboys gone? Indeed, we as Americans desperately need this man back in our midst. We need him today more than ever before or at least one of his ilk. Can no one stand up, shake off the dust, and pick up this mans sword where it fell? Is there no one who will defend America against her enemies as this man did head on, fearless and with dignity and hope ever apparent?

Ronald Regan was there for us when we needed him and now he is at rest as he deserves to be, but to think that there is absolutely no one in our Country today that can come close to this powerful leader, this ardent, God-fearing and America loving man, is a thought that is both shocking and heartbreaking at the same time.

My heart aches for this part of our history, this past of ours that was like no other before it; this life that we cannot reclaim as a people, as a Nation united against our adversaries both large and small. We need a Leader to unite us once again and to bring hope back into our doubtful hearts and a song to our lips.

"And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
For there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the USA"
