Theology: the study of God

"Theology: the study of God". Having placed this title under the category of Philosophy is very interesting. You can take it as a question wether theology is the study of God or a science considering God. And then you can take it as a statement saying: Theology is the study of God.
In this article I understand the title as both. That is the title is the possitive answer/statement about the question: Is theology the study of God.

And then what is this study about. Seen from the philosophical point of view it could be the never ending discussion about the existence of God. Does he exist? Then you can answer the tricky way and say there would not be a science called theology if there were no God. Then you would be studying nothing - a non-existing thing. That leans on one of the eldest arguments for the existence of God saying that there would be no world and no humans if God did not exist because someone must have created all this. It cannot have come from nothing. But then look at the world and you will discover that not all is perfect. And God is perfect, right? Would he have created all these not-perfect things? And what about evil? Did he create this too?
Already at this point we are on our way to another subject that the science of theology is about. The nature of God. What is God? Is there only one? And what about Gods son? How can that be possible? Is that not two Gods then?
But theology is much more than that. It is the study of the Bible - that is if you are Christian because you can of course also study theology as a muslim or a hindu or whatever other religion you attend. Studying the writing about God is a very big part of theology because all the previously writings contain other peoples answers to questions about God. And maybe thes answers a good answers that you can use. It will be problematic to say that it is correct answers because as the never ending discussion about the existence of God tells us it will never be possible to say: This is God and he looks like this, he has these powers etc. That is a question of belief.
