There are many great fluffy feel good movies about friendships, but rather than focusing on the obvious Beaches, and Ya Ya sisterhood, and also because I have a more darker side, I'd like to name a few movies that are a little bit more darker yet also realistic. Plus I have never seen Beaches or The Traveling Ya-Yas.

Heathers
Probably one of the Greatest movies about friendships ever made. Set in a small town in Ohio, Westerberg High is ruled by a group of popular girls all Heathers minus one Veronica. The main Heather is Heather Chandler, who makes the other Heathers and Veronica conduct lunch time polls in the cafeteria, just because they can. Veronica Sawyer who is the black sheep of the clique, is often at odds with Heather Chandler and questions her lunchroom antics, that result in lame answers to even lamer questions, and the occasional bullying of the less popular students.

The other Heathers, afraid of main Heather agree with whatever is on the lunch menu if it saves them from the claws of Heather Chandler. It isn't until Veronica meets a new student who shares the same philosophy on ' friends ' that things start to change at Westerberg High. Veronica and her new friend Dean accidentally kill the main Heather and cover it up by making it seem like a suicide. As with all high school cliques, when the main leader is overthrown, or in this case killed, there is always an eager beaver waiting for their 15 minutes.

The best thing about this movie besides a very young Christian Slater and Winona Ryder, is the dialogue. Filled with many great one liners and dark humor, Heathers is a classic movie about friendships and cliques in High School, although I do find myself drawing parallels to cliques in my elementary school years, junior high school years, high school years, and currently Corporate America years. The only difference is my Catholic school uniform has been replaced by my all black Corporate America uniform, and my locker is now a lot bigger and is now called a cubicle.

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Jack Nicholson stars in this movie as a man that has been sent to a mental institution instead of prison. While in the ward he befriends a bunch of mentally unstable patients and one bog Indian he calls Chief. He questions daily routine and distresses the head nurse of the facility Nurse Ratched. He changes things up and takes his friends for a joyride on a school bus. He also manages to sneak women in to the facility for a holiday party.
