How to find your true passion

Finding your true passion in life can be extremely difficult with countless everyday obstacles standing in your way. Whether you are 15 or 50, you may feel uncertain of the path you want to follow, what truly excites you and what contribution you can make to society.

Your life passion may be rooted deep inside your soul, that leads you to a self discovery that you may never knew existed or it may be staring you right in your face, just waiting to surface. The following steps can help you learn more about yourself.

1. Spend some time alone.
Alone time helps you figure out who you really are and what you're interested in without outside influences. Other peoples perceptions of who you are and what they think you want can lead you to misinterpret your true desires.

2. Let your thoughts take over.
Put aside what you HAVE to do everyday and think about what you WANT to do everyday. Think about what makes you happy, excited and motivated.

3. Start a journal.
Write your personal, educational, career, short and long term goals down in a journal or notebook, and then make a list of your hobbies. Start thinking about how you can include your hobbies into your goals.

4. Research your options and obstacles.
Get on the Internet and research how you can take your passion to the next level either by making it your career, using it to help others or simply by continuing to educate yourself on the subject. You will find what obstacles you will need to work through and the best way of overcoming them.

5. Don't give up.
Never let anyone discourage you from living out your dreams. There will be times when you feel you can't contribute as much to your passions as you want, but give yourself time off and then start back with the same conviction as when you first started.

Personally, I constantly felt indecisive, unhappy and unsatisfied with my educational and career choices but after surviving a life threatening disease, I decided to take the time to find out who I really am and discover my true passions.

Once I had time to spend alone, took the time to really think about what excited me, started a journal, researched my options and obstacles and fully committed to my true passion, any other avenue seemed unnatural. I discovered that for years I was totally on the wrong path. It is amazing to me now, that I ever thought of doing anything else.
