vulnerable, and I think that is what attracted me to him. First of all, he started out as a teenager, that alone brought about a myriad of issues. He was shy, ostracized, a nerd, and couldn't get the girl. As he graduated from High School, went to college, and became a free lance photographer with the Daily Bugle, he eventually opened up and married Mary Jane. His vulnerabilities were always reflected in his personal life and the hard decisions that he had to make because he was Spider Man.
The movie and television industry also did much to take this fictional hero over the top. Spider Man is a household name.
Captain Kirk.
Kirk is another one of my favorite heroes. The melodramatic antics of William Shatner brought this character to life. It seemed as though each episode brought about another set of vulnerabilities for the Captain, and certainly a host of challenges that he would have to face.
My favorite episodes from the TV episodes are; Mirror Mirror, City on the Edge of Forever, and Where No Man has Gone Before. My Favorite all time Star Trek Movies are The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock. Kirk shines in them all.
Mr. Spock.
It would be illogical not to mention Mr. Spock when considering this cast of famous science fiction characters. He also made Star Trek what it is. His character was the perfect balance for Kirk's melodramatic moments that would eat up the screen. Spock's strength and vulnerability were reflected in his logic. However, the balance and the wisdom that he exuded were a welcome breath of fresh air to the TV series and the movie run.
Neo.
So, why did he take the blue pill again? I think that what made Neo so remarkable was that he showed us the potential in every man. That is the bottom line for me, we all have the potential and ability to be 'The One', it really boils down to the choices that we make, and the sacrifices that we are willing or unwilling to make.
Neo's character development reflected a multitude of strengths and weaknesses, many of which are our own, if we are honest with ourselves.
Wolverine.
Wolverine is another Marvel Comics Icon, much like Spider Man. I think that what really attracts people to this character is that he really is fearless. I am not sure about what makes him vulnerable other than his past.
Yoda.
Yoda is as integral to the Star Wars epic as Darth Vader and the Skywalker boys. For me, Yoda tells me that all things are possible. It's just going to take a lot of work to make possibilities a reality.
E.T.
Steven Spielberg's E.T. is the kind of classic that is timeless. The supporting cast must be given credit as well as they helped to bring this story to life. E.T. seemed to vulnerable to earth's environment and for a moment seemed to succumb to it.
Those are the ten most famous science fiction characters that I see according to my limited conversations and research of science fiction characters. There are two more that could have also been with the top ten. They are Frodo Baggins, 'Lord of The Rings', and Dr. Who. For Frodo, the Ring itself was a burden and the ultimate vulnerable point. I think that Dr Who was an alien, and that brings its own set of vulnerabilities.
