The most famous science fiction characters

There are so many famous and well known science fiction characters to choose from that it is almost unfair to select a choice few from this ever increasing genre of characters. So, I will give you who I consider to be the ten most famous science fiction characters, and two additional characters who could just as easily be included in the first ten.

I think that what makes a great science fiction character, or any character for that matter are the vulnerabilities associated with the character. These weaknesses are often part of the struggle, internal as they may be that wages war as the characters engage in the external struggle surrounding them.

Darth Vader.

The mention or thought of his very name automatically triggers his Star Wars theme song, you know, the one that always plays whenever he appears on the screen. He is one of the few science fiction characters associated with a song. The entire character development behind Darth Vader has been a stroke of genius. I think that we all have a little Darth Vader in us...some more than others obviously. For me, the theme of redemption at the very end is greater, far greater than the cruelty associated with his character.

Believe it or not Darth Vader's vulnerability was love. It was his love for Luke (his son), that caused him to defeat the emperor. This was a vulnerability that really became a strength in the end.

Frankenstein's Monster.

Most of the famous science fiction characters have enjoyed big screen status for at least the last 15 years. Frankenstein's monster, starring Boris Karloff as the tormented soul does not fit in this category, unless there have been recent remakes of the movie that I am not aware of. This character has stood the test of time. Today's youth know who Frankenstein's monster is, even though he is commonly referred to as Frankenstein.

Frankenstein's monster just wanted to be human, and loved, that was his greatest vulnerability.

Superman.

The Superman comic books (first published by Action Comics, and later by DC Comics) made Superman an Icon, a national hero. The movie and television industry put him over the top. Superman has stood the test of time and will continue to do so for a very long time
Everyone knows that Superman's greatest vulnerability is Kryptonite, after that there is Lois Lane, but who can blame a man for being in love?

Spider Man.

My favorite all time hero is Spider Man. I was an avid reader and collector of Spider Man comics back in my youth. This was a hero that was totally
