With the expansion of the technological age and the increase in communications equipment invading the vast majority of households, how are we as human beings reacting to this phenomenon? What impact has it had upon our sense of reality?
There is no doubt that the ability to communicate through the medium of the internet has changed the way in which humans react and, similarly, seen an evolvement of their sense of reality. Prior to this phenomenon reality for humans tended to exist within what they could see with their own eyes, feel, touch or in some other physical means experience.
Now, with the Internet, that reality is disappearing. Take relationships as an example. Historically, at least in the western world, for a relationship to develop would take several meetings face to face, with physical contact and closeness an important element of that development. Even friendships were connecting based in that a meeting was important to fire the start of friendship. With the growth of Internet communication, that reality is no longer part of the initial equation. One can meet and make friends, and even fall in love, without any physical view or contact whatsoever. In fact, in many cases it is happening without even words being exchanged. All of the developments now take place simply by exercising the written word. This is the new reality.
Similarly, distance and culture has become less of a barrier. People on line meet up from all over the world and this does not seem to bother them. The reality of the past was such that even small distances would have been presented as a potential reason for not either starting or continuing a relationship.
Thus, the conclusion is that perspective of human reality has been changed by the advancement of computer, Internet and other technological advancements.
