The question of 'Why we make bad choices in life?' is predominately because at that particular time in our lives it most probably felt like the right thing to do. We do not possess the power of hindsight. We live, we make mistakes, we have to carry on regardless.
In retrospect our 'bad' choices can have different outcomes. Some 'mistakes' can be corrected, and to some extent they will not cause too much harm to either ourselves or others. However there are some errors in our judgment that will inevitably cause our lives to never be the same again, or in some people's views, approach the future with the thought that 'my life has ended.'
How do you answer the 'why' when we made that choice? Too young, too immature, he/she fell in with the wrong crowd, peer pressure, who knows. When we realize we have made a bad choice we begin the search for answers, to justify ourselves, to try to explain why we did what we did.
Blame can be sought, and placed or misplaced. The parents did not teach them right from wrong, he or she felt that they had no choice, or its 'your own fault'.
We, as a human race, will never be perfect no matter how hard we strive to be. History, as a whole, has not taught us to learn from past errors. We have seen what has occurred, but still we continue to follow paths that will ultimately end in disaster.
We can talk of bad choices, and say to ourselves 'if only I did this', or, 'if I had done that, then this would not have happened'. Can we always blame one person and not take into consideration outside factors? Some people have a free choice, whilst those who remain feel trapped and their paths guided by those who are deemed to have control over them.
There is no definitive answers, only factors to be accountable. I myself have made bad choices throughout my life that I now look upon with the wisdom of hindsight. But I cannot change what I have done, or seen. On my own conscience that rests, and I try to make the best of what I have. I compare what I do know and possess against thr thoughts of how I would feel if I lost something I almost take for granted. That is my own coping method, to compare.
Errors in judgment are a way of life. Others will look upon how you live in judgement, and in their eyes you have done wrong. Although they may be correct regarding certain aspects, I can dismiss other choices because I, myself, know that I chose right, and in the end if I can live with what my life will be, then I have made the right choice.
