Commentary: Bush uses false argument to justify war in Iraq

Since early 2000 when a change of power happened we thought we could once again feel proud of our leader. Then there was 9/11 when the earth shook and so did we. A promise was made to extract the terrorists from their dens and make them pay for what they had done.
Then there came Iraq. The powers that be said we needed this war, that there was significant reason for it. They told us fairy tales on the TV, on the radio, in the newspapers. We all bought it.

Iraq was the big bad wolf disguised, and we were the sweet little red riding hood, they told us. We had to protect ourselves and our sense of freedom. They had weapons of mass destruction. They would wipe us out with their dirty bombs. They could go nuclear soon and then there wold be no stopping them.

Then Washington was hot with scandal when word got out that there was no yellow cake from South Africa. The Bush white house rose to the counter attack, and a long CIA career was taken down. Lives were shattered and those who opposed the Bush white house suffered. They were ostracized. It was an all out war against the Wilson's. Now imagine if that was you or I. Those of us who punch a time clock would have had little or no chance to recuperate, before the blows took us completely out of the water.

We need to be smarter for tomorrow. No government should have such power it can lie and manipulate its people and then crush them. No government should dare think it is their way or no way at all. We need to scrutinize what politicians say. Challenge them to stand up for what they say they believe in. Make them show us what they say is true. We need to be less like sheep to the slaughter and be ready for what lies ahead. Or what lies are to come ahead.

The Bush I once believed in turned out to be no more than a bully. A playground thug. He wants to show some muscle and forgo the truth, what is right, and all that is good in the way. This is not my kind of America. It is time to be aware, ready for the next president. No more lies about yellow cake, and tubes. No more false weapons of mass destruction. We need leaders who lead us to a brighter future. Not mindless mishaps.
