As an author, I may be a little biased about the future of
the printed book, however I think books will always be around. Books are
far too treasured to be tossed aside as time grows faster and many
choose electronic communications. While an integration of instant
communication has changed us in many ways and is incredibly
convenient, books will always remain with us, holding a key role
in shaping the lives of many.
Books serve as family heirlooms or ultimate treasures. Many serve as
a reminder of parts or phases of life. Some are held closely as a guide to get
through tough times, referred to often throughout the years.
I keep my most treasured books nearby all the time.
When I am feeling confused about anything, I read one to help me align with the
perspective that I need, helping me to get past the pain and begin creating my
growth. Based on my experience with them, I am
aware of the importance of having books in hand, or close enough.
Books have changed my life many times and have been an invaluable
tool for my growth and inspiration. Besides relationships, I would
say books are the most direct way to connect with someone. Telling
your story can change the lives of endless readers. So many of us go through
similar events and circumstances. Reading about these commonalities
ties us together and allows us to recognize what we share.
Books have been passed through my circle of friends many times. One
book shared among several people has had such an impact on all their
lives and has actually served as an opportunity to connect on a
deeper level. Books displayed on bookshelves serve as galleries of
wisdom, topic starters, and information for a guest to get lost in.
There is something magical about picking up a book and going out into
nature - sitting on a hill a top the city, with a light wind in your
face while settling into a good book. Or gathering with a
group of friends to spend hours at the bookstore
looking at the various subjects, styles, and opinions. I think as
the electronic age continues to progress, books will become more
sacred and treasured.
