Scientific fields of endeavor are disciplines. They have become empirical schools of study which constantly seek to form a more complete understanding of the fundamental nature of reality. Scientific research has produced real payoffs in very many areas and these payoffs have improved our lives substantially. Basically, science is real. The proof is in the proofs.
Religions are institutions. Churches, mosques, and temples are gathering places for religious folk who seek the comfort that this form of institutionalization provides. So long as there is a remote possibility that heaven or hell await them on dying then their worship becomes barter for their lack of certain knowledge of God and of their eventual transition from Earthly life. In other words, better to err on the side of caution. Worship takes on many forms: adoration; supplication; idolization; veneration and so on. I am reminded that on Earth pandering in a court of law makes one subject to a charge of contempt. Apparently God is more forgiving, but sometimes I wonder just how He values we humans. His ultimate consideration is the return on our humility, I suppose. We are taught that He loves us. Many see themselves as deserving of His love and contribute ten percent of their income to their church toward that end. Continued tithing over the past two thousand years has made the Catholic Church the richest institution in the world. They own their own country - principality, actually.
I would wager that even most evolutionists have religion. But they have posited, and rightly in my opinion, that the idea of an omnipotent being existing before this colossal entity we call the Universe existed and who is solely responsible for its creation is an untenable notion. I for one would like an explanation from creationists as to how we humans, who have evolved our form as necessary adaptations to the challenges of our environment over the eons that humans have been evolving - ie. bipedally with long arms and hands for grasping and holding and legs obviously designed for running away from big predators, were made by this Creator in His image. How could this Creator have evolved arms and legs as necessary adaptations to an environment that He had not yet created? It would make more sense to believe that God is a creation in man's image, but of course that is merely an evasive argument.
The faiths of this world are varied and diverse. On the one hand we have the Christian legend of Jesus miraculously turning water
