As Thomas Edison once said, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Where appearance is concerned, one could argue that beauty is found 1% without and 99% within. There is much more to the human being than the skin and hair that covers our outsides. In fact, the entirety of the human spirit and soul is greater than the sum of all our body parts. What we see on the surface does not begin to reflect what is contained within. Hijab is a practice of those in the Islamic faith, where a scarf or shawl is used to cover their hair and head. Speaking in regards to this traditional Muslim head covering, as it is worn only by women, our discussion of beauty will focus on the fairer sex.
Hijab is worn by women throughout Muslim communities as a practice of the aspect of faith that requires all body parts, with the exception of hands, face and feet, to be covered from view. The purpose of this practice is to obscure from the casual observer those parts of the body that may entice or tempt the viewer to have impure thoughts. The hair is considered to be sensual and attractive, to the point of driving men to distraction. Who would disagree this point? The real question is, does a woman's beauty begin or end with her hair or body? Any man who has ever been floored by a set of exotic eyes, or had their knees go weak from a sultry smile would answer with a quick and resounding "NO." Are these attributes not the outward expression of a woman's inner beauty? The sparkle in a woman's eyes is usually preceded by an internal contentment. A genuine smile cannot be fabricated, but rather more likely it is the result of taking time to enjoy the happiness experienced in that moment in time. Beautiful outward demonstrations of what transpires deep within, in the depths of a beautiful woman's infinite soul.
The type of beauty a woman exudes is not exclusive to a her face. When a woman is confident, she holds her posture erect. When a woman is educated, she makes valuable contributions to stimulating conversations. And when a woman is secure with herself, she projects a determination and strength that no plastic surgery could duplicate. Foremost in the beautiful attributes of the woman who wears Hijab is the demonstration of her devotion to her religious beliefs. The person who values the beauty this woman offers has truly found a gem, to be cherished and valued beyond any treasure on earth.
