How do people around the world relax?

Americans are starting to be more opened minded about relaxation techniques that have been practiced around the world for centuries. Many Americans relax by gluing their faces to the T.V. and watching game shows or drama's.

Reading is widely used as a way to relax and unwind in the western world. More enlightened individuals use deep tissue massage using a warm body oil as a way to work the kinks out and just let the magic fingers of a masseuse lull them physically.

The skin is the largest organ of your body and whatever is applied gets absorbed inside the body, and straight into your bloodstream.

But frequent trips to the masseuse can be hard on the wallet, and relaxation is only partly physical, mental relaxation is essential.

Aromatherapy is becoming more popular in the west and is used to relax and heal and is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile liquid plant materials, known as essential oils and other aromatic compounds from plants such as sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and grape seed oil for the purpose of affecting a person's mood or health.

Many westerners are also discovering Acoustitherapy, which is the use of sound, music specifically in order to improve both emotional, physical, and psychological health. Many programs blend nature sounds like ocean waves, rain drops, wildlife sounds, along with acoustic guitar, orchestra, and tribal music.

In the Far East and India deep-breathing has been used to improve health, relieve stress and relax for countless years. In the West, we are just now beginning to understand how vital and effective this practice can be for improving health and overall quality of life.

Yoga, an ancient spiritual practice originating in India that means "union" has been utilized by Hindus for centuries. They use it to achieve total relaxation by bringing the mind, body, and spirit together, thus creating a perfect balance.

In China where the predominant religion is Buddhism they practice a similar discipline they call Zen, which is a blend of physical and spiritual practices! Tibetan monks also use both physical yoga-like relaxation techniques along with spiritual chanting and philosophy to reach a place of total relaxation and self contentment.

So, if the traditional western practices of television, reading, or massage work for you and take you to that special place of total ease and contentment that's great.

But don't be afraid to be adventuresome and experimental. Aromatherapy, Acoustitherapy, Yoga, all these methods have been in practice and are tried and true methods of relieving stress and helping you unwind and enjoy life.

Too many things keep our minds and thus our bodies stressed out, such as bills, relationships, and health concerns. By relieving stress and learning to relax you can live a much happier and healthier existence.
