I don't think that talking to your self is really all that bad. I know people always make fun of other people or just plain freak out when people talk to themselves, but at the same time we all do it. I mean we ALL do it. Basically it is thinking.
We all have our own ways of talking to ourselves. Some of us are really reserved and we can quietly have our conversation amongst ourself by ourself in our own head. Others sometimes have little out bursts where they will say something out loud every now and again. While there are the super loud thinkers who just flat out have their whole conversation so the world can hear.
Have you ever been working at your desk and then all of a sudden your co worker bursts something out that makes no sense to you or to human kind. You aren't really sure if they were talking to you or not. Sometimes you have the nerve to ask "What did you say?" Those times we ask what was said, the person will usually giggle and go into an explanation of thinking out loud. This is essentially talking to one's self, but you wouldn't exactly classify your co worker with the bum who was talking out side of starbucks with a sign that declares he is an alcoholic and will use the change to buy himself a bottle of rot gut?
There are times where we are doing something, like cleaning the bathroom, and before we know it we hear talking. For a brief second we are almost freaked out, and the first thing that comes to mind is Psycho, before we realize that we were just calming ourselves while cleaning by talking to ourselves, it just happened to be out loud this time. Of course we are thanking goodness that no one was around to witness such a thing happening. Which naturally makes one giggle at one's self for being so silly in the first place. But like I said, we all do it.
Having conversations with ourselves is completely normal. Sometimes we really need to think out loud to see how things sound or if it seems like a right choice. Going over things in our head quietly also works. It is rather healthy and can keep you looking like an idiot in front of your friends. I know I have had some pretty weird thoughts, and when I think about it I am glad I didn't consult anyone else with it. Because out of all the things I know, I know that having a conversation with myself, the one will even repeat the conversation behind my back.

I definitely have conversations with myself. If the truth were to be known, I would bet that most people also talk to themselves.
