Sad songs that will make you cry

by Helen Heard

Created on: March 01, 2008

Music has been used in so many different aspects from birthday parties, to funerals, to hospitals. Few things in life affect our emotions, and moods in the way that music can, and different people feel it in diverse ways. It can take your mood to the highest of highs, or the lowest of lows, it just depends on what you are listening to, and how you want to feel. This article though is about sad songs that can make you cry, so we'll focus on that.

#1. Teddy Bear by Red Sovine
This is a surefire, guaranteed you are going to cry, sad country songs around . It is about a little crippled boy nicknamed Teddy Bear, whose father died in an accident while driving his eighteen wheeler. He gets on his dads' CB radio, just to talk to the truckers as they pass through his town. He tells how it's been hard on his mom since his dad passed away, as she has had to go to work to support them, and he can hear her crying at night. He also tells the trucker that he is talking to about riding in his dads truck, and how that's all over now, so the trucker decides to go to his house, and give him a ride. Unbeknownst to them both other truckers had been listening to their conversation, and when the trucker pulls up, eighteen wheeler trucks line the street. Before the drivers leave, they take up a collection for the family, and at the end of the song there is a tearjerker moment when the boys' mom thanks the truck drivers.

#2. Alissa Lies by Jason Michael Carroll
This is a sad song because it is about a very real topic, the horror of child abuse. It is about a little girl named Alissa, who is being abused, and her little friend notices that she has bruises, and asks her dad why she lies as Alissa has apparently been lying to her teacher, and friends about the abuse. The dad struggles with what to do, but when he goes back to the school, he find out the worst news, Alissa has died. This is definitely a wakeup song, as well as a tearjerker.

#3. 1997 Candle In The Wind by Elton John
A remix of the song he wrote about Marilyn Monroe, Elton John rewrote, and sang this song at Princes Diana's funeral. It spoke of her life, and charity work, and for those of us who stayed up to watch it on that early September morning, it is a memory we will never forget.

#4 Hurt by Johnny Cash
In this sad song, the narrator has somehow mistreated someone, one of his dearest friends, and he warn every one else to stay away from him. What can be said when some one tells you "I will let you down, I will make you hurt". Besides, its Johnny Cash, what more do you need to know.

Those are some of my top sad song picks. Go ahead find one of them, listen, and have a good cry, sometimes it can be therapeutic.
