I have visited China twice. Below are the highlights of the places I have visited in China: Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xian, and Lhasa, Tibet.

Beijing: The main thing to see while in Beijing is to go to the Great Wall. It is quite amazing to see how it goes on and on from the Badling section. Another favorite spot of mine is the Summer Palace, which is beautifully located overlooking a lake. Also, do not forget to try the Peking Duck while here if you are not a vegetarian.

Shanghai: The Shanghai Museum has a great collection of Chinese artifacts. The Yu Yuan Garden is also a great example of Chinese noble gardens.

Chengdu: The Sichuan Giant Panda Breeding Center is a great place to visit if you want to see the animal that symbolizes China and learn about the efforts to save them. The Leshan Buddha is an amazing site to see. It is the World's Largest Buddha and is carved out of the mountain.

Xian: The Terra Cotta Army is the most famous attraction of Xian and is well worth the visit. The Yanling Tomb is a lesser known attraction, but offers another great experience of seeing the excavations of an Emperor's tomb.

Lhasa, Tibet: The is a beautiful destination located in Tibet up in the Himalayas. Potala Palace is the Dalai Lama's winter palace. It is a must see, but the hike up the mountain can be hard if taken on your first day adjusting to the high altitude even if you think you are in great shape.
