Come to the Southern Harbor, Come to Daphne, Alabama
Come to the southern harbor and experience tranquility and serenity, among the natural beauty of the coastline. The smell the fresh air, while listening to the boats come in from shrimp and crab fishing. For the year of 2008, it is one of the one hindred best places to live. And it is easy to see why. While seeing the beauty of Mobile across a wide harbor. Visit the beauty of Daphne while, walking through the parks or fishing the piers.
Daphne, Alabama is a small town nestled on the shore of the east side of the Mobile Harbor. Daphne is different from most southern towns. Racism, political parties, drugs and religious preferences take a back seat in this unique community. There is so much to see in this beautiful city. The old downtown has strived to stay in contact with the original character as much as possible.
There are of course, numerous activities of craft shows. This is when the downtown is completely closed and you have th opportunity to walk and see the unusal things which are handmade. My favorite is a booth where a man makes furniture, absolutely beautiful out of fallen trees from previous storms.
Enjoy the Daphne Museum. Where at the Old Methodist Church you will be amazed at the beauty which has been preserved. There is a tale of the Yankee soldiers asking permission to sleep overnight at the church because churches were a sacred and safe place. They were allowed and asked to leave the building as they found it. After sleeping on pews all night, they did exactly that and went on their way.
This is the most serene place on earth to live. The houses line the streets, as in many towns but here one may find it difficult to find them. They are overshadowed by crepe myrtles, night jasmine, and azaleas. Where there aren't blooming flowers, the space is filled with tall pine trees and live oak trees. The pines smell wonderful but it is the live oak trees which will catch your eye.
The difference in the oak trees and the live oak trees is the live oak trees have secret spirits living inside them. To only look at them tells you it is not a mere tree. A spirit has been given to these trees to keep them alive for hundreds of years, while weathering storms,
