US elections 2008: Why to choose Obama over McCain

It seems the choice comes down to Barack Obama and John Mc Cain. So who of these limited choices would make the best President. Let's have a look at their plans for America and decide.

I decided to let the candidates speak for themselves. Obama presents himself through:

http://www.barackobama.com/

And Mc Cain's website is:

http://www.johnmccain.com/

No difference here they have chosen exactly the same format for their domain-name. So let's compare.

The first difference we do notice is that Obama shows himself on his introduction page surrounded by his family. Mc Cain stands alone. Does Mc Cain have a family? Yes he does. No less than seven children. Barack has only two. Their wives both seem lovely. I decide to score them equal points for family and move on.

Basically I get the impression from their websites that they are both nice people. They both seem to have gotten around and done things. Mc Cain has a distinguished military career and Obama lived in many places and eventually became a civil rights lawyer. Mc Cain has been around a lot longer and seemingly lived through some very harrowing times. Obama's career path seems to have been more uplifting with his father growing up in an unlikely place and living the American dream. I guess these diverging paths resulted in a different world view and different opinions on how to handle the presidency.

So far I really can't decide. In order to make up my mind I guess I'll have to look at their stance on the issues.

Healthcare

Mc Cain feels the fundamental problem with Us health care is cost and the focus should be on bringing cost down. I would agree with him that cost is a problem. However he doesn't really seem to have an all-encompassing plan to do this but rather a long list of points way to may of which include the word should.

Obama on the other hand focuses mainly on the problem of the uninsured and I'm very attracted by his statement that health insurance should be mandatory for children.
However he also does address the problem of health care cost and his solutions to lowering cost are a lot more detailed than Mc Cain's.

On Health care I feel Obama is way ahead of Mc Cain. Mc Cain will need to get a lot more specific. He seems to have a lot of good ideas, but I would like to know how they would be implemented.

Gun Control

I will have to give this one to Mc Cain. On his website he is fiercely opposed to gun control, but he at least mentions the issue. For some reason Obama ducks the issue. That's a thing I don't like.
