What is friendship?

Nowadays, friendship seems to be overrated. In this article, friendship doesn't refer to acquaintances, or people you have met last weekend at this party you've attended. The relationship I am about to describe is way more than this. It is something deeper, something that unfortunately, not many of the people I know are having the chance to experience.

Friendship takes time to build. It has nothing to do with love at first sight.

It may not happen the first time you meet someone, and when it does, you might not even notice it has started.
Relationship, which is defined as "a particular type of connection between people" is not a one way street; true friend's feelings are reciprocal. As stated earlier, friendship isn't instant, and actually, it is only when life challenges us and that we find ourselves caught in critical situations that we can look around and feel the difference.

There is no manual, no guidelines, and no rules that need to be mentioned for the reason that it is based on respect trust and compassion. Giving someone as much as you can, whether it is material or any support you can offer; just giving with no judging, and without waiting for anything in return but the wellbeing of a person; this is friendship.
True friends have no boundaries when it comes to helping each other. They don't need any, only because both of them know they would rather stay in their own misery than take advantage of the other. There are even times when they might try to hide their torment to prevent you from worrying; which of course you would notice the minute they entered the room, or by the sound of their voice through the phone.

It is not hard to meet people, live and work with them. Going to the movies or for lunch, visit someone you haven't seen for a while, going to a party and have fun socializing is part of life. This is unfortunately only how far things usually go with your entourage. Some will come and see you when they need you, some when they feel down. Some will stay in contact and will visit sometimes.

Friendship is a fusion of all these situations. No matter what you have to share, whether it is positive or less, true friends will take it and you, just to see happiness appear on their face, will try your best excel their expectations.
