I am very proud to be a Republican. I also, believe it or not, have a soul.
The answer to the fiscal issue is fairly simple. Remember 9/11? It was fairly expensive to reorganize the CIA and FBI after Bill Clinton cut their funding for 8 years. Then there was that little thing called Hurricane Katrina. I mean that only cost a couple of hundred billion dollars. That's not even getting into the war. A question I have for Democrats? Bill Clinton was president for eight years and had a surplus, if socialized medicine is such a good idea, why didn't he pass it while he had a surplus and a democratic congress? How exactly is Obama going to balance the budget and fund all of the programs he's proposed and keep us safe?
As far as shrinking the government, it's more of what would happen in 2009 if Obama or Clinton are elected. Whose going to run the national health care plan, or the end global poverty program, or the college tuition reimbursement, or the home loan salvation grants, or the new road and bridge projects? Bigger government my friend.
I'm not sure why there are Republicans in your bedroom, but maybe you should call an exterminator. If you think they're in your doctors office now, wait until they're paying the bill instead of private insurance companies. Unless you're conversing with Al Queda over the phone, I doubt anyone is listening to your phone calls. If Uranium enrichment plans are being mailed to you I hope someone is looking through your mail, but if not I doubt anyone cares too much about what credit card offers or catalogs you're getting. The purpose of the Patriot Act isn't to take away rights from individual Americans, it's to keep them safe. Not because were fear mongers, because Al Queda is actually a terrorist group with sleeper cells all over the world and intelligence is the best way to stop future attacks. May I point out that the same people that criticize Bush for allowing 9/11 to happen, are the same people criticizing what he's doing to prevent it from happening again. The other ironic thing I find about Patriot Act criticizers are they are the same people that have made it illegal for me to smoke in bars, not wear my seat belt or allow me to eat trans fat in restaurants. (I am by the way a non-smoker, I aways wear my seat belt, and don't eat fast food, but it's the principle.)
Out of curiosity, have you ever actually read the Constitution? It does say that the president is the commander and chief of the military, it doesn't say however,
