I know what you're thinking. Who am I to claim something is fake just because I've never experienced it. That was right, wasn't it?

Probably. Mostly what I just demonstrated is the fact that there is very little variation in human experience. We'd like to think there are an infinite number of outcomes to an infinite number of choices.

However, this just isn't true. The vast majority of the human population behaves according to a limited range of option that is socially acceptable depending on their culture. A mind reader is aware of most of this commonality.

Additionally, depending on the culture, up to sixty percent of communication is non-verbal. We convey additional meaning through tone, facial expression and body language. Emotional content also conveys a subtext that might even reverse the meaning of the spoken word.

Every husband has had the experience of asking their wife if something is bothering her and had her very clearly say "No." Her tone tells you the answer is yes but she is not yet ready to talk about it. She wants to let you stew for a while first.

A lot of meaning in one word.

Imagine a real mind reader standing before an audience on television. The one's we see now start out with a wide net statement like, "I'm getting the name 'Paul.' Does the name Paul have any meaning here?"

Someone excitedly says, "Yes, my dead father/husband/cat was named Paul!" And the show goes on.

A Real mind reader wouldn't operate anything like that. He would be irritable, look tired and unkempt. Why? Because they would be tired of listening to peoples inner thoughts all day. Likely he would live far out in the country away from people.

His television appearances would be brief and highly rated. Walking in the room he would do something like:

"Betty Thompson, you're pregnant and no, I have no idea who the father is. But the man sitting next to your husband just panicked."

"Jonathan Bailey, go ahead and tell your parents you're gay. They know, everybody knows. You're not fooling anyone."

A couple of shows like that and people would avoid him like a rabid badger. The psychic would be happy to be left alone . . . right up until the government started shipping him to Guantanamo Detention Center to interrogate prisoners.

As annoying as that might be to the mind reader, at least he could sort out the bad ones from the innocent quickly.
