Hillary's stance on Iraq prior to her campaign for president was pro-war. She voted for us to send our troops there, she's voted for funding of more troops, and she voted against her party to keep our troops there without a timetable. Since running for president her tune has changed. She cast a vote that could have only been for purely political gain that would set a timetable for troop withdrawal. This was bill that she knew would never make it. She's urged the president to start bringing the troops home immediately. Despite her voting record on Iraq her website claims that Hillary has fought everyday in the Senate to get the president to change course on Iraq. Her website also says if she is elected she will begin troop withdrawal within the first 60 days of her term.
Looking back at her voting record, public statements in interviews, senate floor speeches, and most recent primary debate speech comments; the final reaction to Hillary Clinton's stance on the war in Iraq; is HUH? One would have to wonder if she means what she says or if she is just trying to win an election by saying what voters want to hear. When she is asked about the change in attitude and beliefs on this war, she refuses to apologize for voting to send troops there in the first place. She states that it was the right thing to do at the time. Her senate floor speech when she voted to send troops proves she knew that she was voting for war, but when she's pinned in on that question her response is that she voted AGAINST war by sending our troops there, and that Bush abused his authority. She has voted to fund more troops every time the administration has requested it, and yet she argues that she did not oppose the war, but the way it was ran by Bush and his administration.
Her stand on Iraq since 2002 has been full of inconsistencies. Hillary Clinton's stand on Iraq since 2002 has left her looking both pro-war and anti-war on the situation in Iraq. This is most likely political strategy on Hillary's part, rather than war strategy. She took both stands in case the war went in the Bush administrations favor at first, so she could thump her chest for voting for a successful war. She voted for Bush's war, and delivered a speech in support in 2002. In 2004 she began voting for timetables instead of open ended funding and has stated in public that she urges the president to end the war. Hillary's stand on the war in Iraq has given me a clear image of what the term "flip flop" is.
