How to make friends

(baby steps, right?)! When you're really feeling froggy, follow the "Hi" with a "How's it going" and look out!

Taking a genuine interest in what someone is saying is the next step in making a new friend. Don't look over their shoulder when they're talking to you - you wouldn't like it if someone did that while you were speaking, right? Be an active listener; ask them questions and let them fill your ears with whatever they're saying. You'll be learning about them and yourself at the same time, and building the foundation of a potentially lifelong friendship in the process.

You've got to remember that while it's not always easy to be friendly, friendliness is the key to beginning a friendship. Oddly enough, all of those words have something in common (though I can't quite put my finger on what it is). The whole "I'm going to chew your leg off" thing is so out this year - because it just isn't conducive to making friends.

Even Bill Gates' massive house started out with just one two-by-four; think of the smile you give a stranger as that two-by-four. When you're up to it, start adding nails and other pieces of wood by continuing to make others feel good about themselves - that's the ultimate key to building something as wonderful as a friendship.
