Some easy ways to reduce stress

Is stress getting the better of you? Are the pressures of the twenty-first century taking their toll? Stress is a killer disease. It has been associated with increased susceptibility to heart disease, high blood pressure and reduced immunity to disease. In addition, stress can have a devastating impact on your marriage, your relationships and your family life.

What can we do to cope with stress more effectively? What lifestyle choices will help to transform us into more relaxed, well-adjusted and un-stressed individuals?

We each have our own stress threshold. What one person can take in his stride can be another person's breaking point. We respond to pressure in different ways.

The evidence shows that the more stressed we become, the less inclined we are to partake in a healthy lifestyle.

The right balance can help us to cope more effectively with stressful situations. Spending more time with the family and friends, exercise and an outside interest may contribute to achieving this balance. If you are a workaholic, then find a way to reduce the time you spend at work. Often we are so involved in the daily stresses of life that we become alienated from the people that matter to us most our families. Devote some extra time to your children and rebuild any broken relationships.

Take time-out for a romantic dinner. Take your partner out for a great meal. Let your hair down and allow it to turn into a long romantic evening. Follow this with dancing. Intimate time together may help to rebuild a damaged marriage. Sex in a relationship has many is benefits and is one of the most effective stress relievers known to man and woman!

Excessive alcohol increases the dangers, but a glass of wine or a small daily Scotch can help you to relax and unwind after a long busy day.

One of the key de-stressors is partaking in a regular sport or exercise routine. A healthy body promotes a healthy mind and one that is less prone to stress. Join a gym, a yoga class, take up running or start participating in a sport. The benefits are huge.

Think about the last time you read a good novel. Reading is active. Television viewing is passive. A good book has the ability to absorb you and can transport you to new places. It can help you to focus attention away from your troubles.

Creativity can play an important part in relieving stress. The left-brain produces stress. Our culture is left-brain focused. Corporate careers rely on left-brain analytical skills. Injecting more creativity into your
