Christianity and today's lifestyles

"Opposite Directions"

There are many good works done by many good people in the world we live in, and we thank God for that! At the same time, however, it seems a growing number of people today are choosing to follow lifestyles which separate them from God and the basic principles of Christianity. Perhaps at the root of this problem is a poisonous cancer which is known as Humanism.

As defined by "Wiktionary," Humanism is a secular ethical system which centers on human interests, values, needs, and freedoms. On the surface it sounds pretty good. It's progressive, forward thinking, respectful and tolerant of others around us. Ah, but the problem is that those who embrace this fraudulent lifestyle, tend to pleasure themselves first, above all others.

The very elements of Humanism encourage us to seek OUR OWN interests, values, needs, etc. because these are centered around some of our most basic human weaknesses. You can believe that Satan knows this all too well! After all, he is guilty of seeking these things himself and he looks to destroy as much goodness in people as he can. If we follow along with this faulty thinking, we tend to pursue lifestyles which lavish ourselves, hoping to find rewards which make us happy. In the end, it just doesn't work out.

All to often, we find material wealth may make us happier for a time, but ultimately it fails to intrinsically satisfy our souls. Maybe that's because we were created to do God's work which is to love and glorify Him by serving the needs of others! Can it be that if we choose a lifestyle centered on Christianity, we can find that illusive "happiness" we all want?

The Holy Bible is all about love...the love of God and Christ for us, the love They ask from us in return, and the love passed between fellow human beings. In Eph. 2:10, we find "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

In Titus 3:1,2 we read "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities...to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." These kinds of values, used as a foundation for our lifestyles are not only good for us, but for all others too. What law is there against doing good things?

By living for ourselves first, exorcising God from our hearts and minds, we will only make things worse for everyone, ourselves included. We head in the opposite direction which God intended for us. We must nurture and help to grow the seeds of good righteous living in order to find long lasting happiness within ourselves.

Humanism and other Godless, self-serving lifestyles fall short of true happiness, both in this life and in the one to follow. The sooner we align our lives with the goodness of Christian works, the longer we have to find deep happiness here, and rewards untold in heaven with our Lord and His Son!
