Wedding planning is challenging and at times downright stressful, but for today's groom it can even be (gasp!) fun. The groom's traditional role consists of details like picking his best man, but that doesn't mean he can't help pick out the china as well. The level of the groom's involvement will vary from couple to couple, but no matter what the size or style of your wedding, no matter how traditional or modern, there are plenty of helpful ways to get involved.
WEDDING PARTY
For starters, you and your fiance should determine who will be in the wedding party to support you on your special day. Think about whom you want to be your best man (you can have more than one or have a female fulfill this role) as well as the groomsmen. If you don't have a ringbearer, make sure your best man is someone you can rely on to have the rings ready during the ceremony.
Throughout the planning, you'll likely be in charge of keeping your groomsmen in the loop. You should make sure they know what to wear on the wedding day, where to be, and when to be there. If they're going to wear tuxes, make sure they all get fitted and order their tux in plenty of time for the ceremony day. If they need to know the logistics of any other wedding-related events, such as the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, you should be their liaison.
VENDORS
Picking a photographer, baker, and DJ might not be your idea of fun, but wedding vendors are a huge part of the wedding expense. If you and your fiance both meet with a vendor, you can ask plenty of questions to make sure you're getting someone you both like and can afford.
REGISTERING
Your role in registering for gifts can consist of far more than sighing while being dragged through rows of kitchen appliances and towels. Look at it as your big chance to have a say in the everyday items that will likely greet you around the house for years to come. Do you prefer your bedding to have a simple design or a specific color? Have you always liked the hefty feel of substantive knives and forks? Registering together is a great way for you and your fiance to get a feel for each other's preferences and taste.
Most registry stores nowadays have systems set up where you get your own scanning gun. This gadget provides an interactive touch to the registry process, and some even function like a high-tech toy for you to use while you register. You can scan in a barcode and enter in the quantity of certain items or delete out an accidental scan.
