Best ways to cut down on life's stresses

Since stress in inevitable the way that you choose to handle it is what really shows you're true colors. When something goes the opposite way of what you want it to do you just go with the flow or do you freak out and give up? Does it just depend on how bad you wanted it or does it help if there are other people there?

For me I tend to just go with the flow, making lemonade out of lemons as they say. When something in one of my paintings doesn't go quite right I can just paint over it. If something happens with one of my friends I know that they love me for who I am and we'll get through it. When a customer had a problem I was the one that people turned to because of my cool head and problem solving experience.

When you deal to handle the stress when you need to and deal with or let it out later you look more professional and you present a confident, in control person. When I was a customer service manager at an automotive repair shop and customers drove me crazy I would take a deep breath and think of what corporate would do and what I would do then I would meet the solutions half way to see what would make the customer happy. Then I would deal with the stress that brought me through going to my ju jitsu classes and working out in the shop.

Now that I have more time to myself I have taken up yoga. The stretching and breathing and holding positions definitely makes you concentrate on your body instead of everything else that is going on in your life at the moment. It also helps you stretch out all the kinks in your neck and back which helps you focus more on the work at hand than the fact that you're sore since you're so stressed out.

If it's not possible for me to do yoga or ju jitsu than I try to doodle. It may sound a little weird but drawing little silly pictures usually helps me calm down in the moment. Like when my boyfriend was driving on the way down to Florida. Being a horrible passenger I was freaking out every time someone pulled out in front of us or when he tried to avoid something that was in the road. I pulled out my sketch book and went to town. When I wasn't drawing I was watching movies on the mini DVD player that he bought me in hopes it would keep me occupied. I was good pretty much the whole way there after I started distracting myself from the fact that I was in a vehicle that I wasn't driving.

The main thing I guess is that you distract yourself in something that you really enjoy that way you are concentrating on the task at hand and not the day to day drama of everyday life. The key to really reducing your stress is to dive into something that you have either wanted to do for a while or just something that you already love to do. The best thing is when you do something that you love but haven't done in a really long time. That way you have been looking forward to it that way you have a better chance of letting the experience engulf you instead of you trying to figure out whatever it is that you are trying to get away from. The best way to fix a problem that you have been working on for a while is to take a step back and to approach it again from a fresh point of view when you have a cleared mind.
