MY FAVORITE BIBLE VERSES
I have a collection of favorite Bible verses that I have written out on 8 1/2 by 11 sheets in black marker. They are always on my bulletin board in one stack, with the verse I am most interested in at the time on the top.
Right now my favorite is "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118 verse 24) I have also written at the top of the sheet "Think, that this day will never dawn again." from Dante.
It gives me a good reminder every day to live life as much as I can on each day and to try to fill it up with as much as I can do so that I am living my life to the fullest.
The other verses that I have posted on my bulletin board are mostly from the book of Matthew in the New Testament. They are the direct words of Jesus. I prefer to be guided by his direct words than the words by his disciples and other followers of Jesus who began the Christian religion. So I am mostly interested in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the New Testament.
I have these verses posted to refer to quickly when I need help in defending myself from the "Wolves in sheep's clothing."
I will share these verses with you also:
1) "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward."
"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut the door, pray to thy father which seeth in secret; and thy father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." (St. Matthew Chap 6 verse 5, 6) (* In our time synagogues would refer to churches or synagogues. In Jesus day there were only synagogues).
This is the verse I refer to if I am admonished by a proselytizing religious person to attend church or trying to convert me to their religion.
2) "...for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (St. Matthew Chap 5 verse 45)
I like this verse because it reminds me that God is not punishing me when something bad happens. It is just random. God doesn't punish people by causing calamities. They just happen. And even the very wicked have wonderful days and good things happen to them.
3) "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."
"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" (St. Matthew
