I recently purchased an HP laptop with a built in webcam and mic. It has been one of the greatest purchases I have ever made. I don't have to have a bulky camera sitting on top of my computer and I don't have to worry about one staying attached to my laptop. Perhaps you are also a proud owner of a webcam and are wondering how you can use it.
There are a number of great ways to use your webcam. The main use for mine right now is to communicate with my daughter who lives in Italy. Using VoIP technology, (Skype being my personal favorite), I am able to call her computer which also have a built in webcam with mic and we are able to see each other while we talk. I can also watch and hear my grandson play while we are talking. While that alone makes the investment well worth every penny, I also get the added benefit of absolutely no charge. While I am sure that my home phone provider does not derive any pleasure from this situation, I am delighted to be able to communicate at no cost!
Another way that I have seen a webcam used is in the classroom where I teach a video technology class. Students are assigned to create weekly infomercials in which they demonstrate to the audience how to do something or they display their knowledge of a particular topic. Those who do not have access to a traditional video camera but have access to a computer and webcam have used those to record their projects. Webcams could also be a great way for students to collaborate on projects when circumstances keep them from being able to physically meet. Webcams can also be used for meetings in the business world saving travel and phone expenses.
Webcams can also be used with any chat program such as Yahoo Messenger to enhance the chatting experience. You can visit with your friends and family while still in the comfort of your pajamas.
Webcams are a great way to keep in touch with friends and family and can be used to increase business productivity as well. Being able to see the person to whom you are speaking adds an extra dimension to the communication process. One can be sure that webcams will only increase in popularity and use.
