be the first considered when they are in the market for the products or services that you offer.
Volunteering at social and community functions is also a great way to let people know who you are and what you do. Volunteers love doing business with other volunteers, because they sense both your respect and commitment to the community. Sure, these ideas are time intensive, but the dividends are rewarding.
FLIERS AND HANDOUTS
As a rule, fliers and handouts are the baseline form of guerrilla marketing, and is both inexpensive and effective in creating an awareness about you and your business. But it's important not to ruffle any feathers with this one. Do not break postal codes by sticking your fliers in mailboxes, and avoid sticking your fliers on the windshields of cars. These tactics become more irritating to people than inspiring, and could cause you to lose more customers than you gain.
The best strategy is to place them directly into people's hands, but it's also okay to post them at local businesses, as long as you first ask permission from the business owner. This gives you an opportunity to tell your story; who you are, what you do, and how you may be of benefit to them.
These are just a few of the many strategies that could help a business weather the storm of a downturn in the market. Although there are never any guarantees, working harder and smarter before the storm hits makes you much more prepared to ride it out. Once you've established a good name in the community, people are much more likely to remember your name when in need of your services, than that of your competitors. And that's what it's all about.
