Band reviews: The Beatles

The fab four influenced all of the world's music and much of society. Songs of Lennon and McCartney speak to all human souls and songs from George Harrison expand our minds and reflect everyday events. Ringo Starr created fantasy for us and he tried to be the peace maker of the band in their final years.

Few musicians today can discount the influence that the Beatles had on them; it would be like the Beatles trying to deny the influence that Elvis had on them. It is thought that the Beatles not only changed the face of music but also changed the face of the world; both statements are true.

The Beatles were rough and tough and that was their appeal to those who heard them at the cavern club and in Hamburg. Astria Martin saw far beyond their rough exterior and knew they would be legends. She took a photo of the boys right before their discovery beneath a monument that read "and their names lived on forever" Today their names, lives, and music is alive and found intertwined in the sounds of Seattle, Punk, Classical, Pop and our ever subliminal version Muzak.

How could four young men from a small working class town change the world? The answer to that is simple yet very complex. In America we need change and we needed answers; we even needed comfort. The world as we knew it was changing fast and we need some guidance along the way. The Beatles helped provide that to the youth who would begin their own fight for change like no other we had ever seen.

The Beatles had the innate ability to tap into our hearts and minds and produce songs that reflected the changing attitudes, called out for peaceful resolutions, opened our hearts to love and dusted off our memories for days since past.

The Beatles were very unique in their style because they were of four minds. Most bands of the time had one leader, one style, one path. However, the Beatles offered us songs from Paul's mellow Cole Porter style, John's rocking Buddy Holly style, George's experimental and spiritual style and Ringo's free and fantasy style. Each individual Beatle gave us something unexpected at every turn in the road.

Individually we may have never heard of John, Paul or George; Ringo was already well on his way to fame with Roy Storm and The Hurricanes but without the graced and blessed combination of these four men from a little known area called Liverpool we may have never seen so many doors opened in the music industry; denying all of us much great music.
