How to use advertising to display a positive company image

Having a positive business image is important when marketing your business to the public. Sometimes, people have a negative image of businesses or corporations due to the negative press stories that are released. It is like the public only hears about the negatives and never acknowledges the positives. Therefore, your public image is increasingly important. This fact becomes even more apparent when dealing with issues concerning the environment. If your company is dubbed as a "polluter" or as being "unfriendly" to the environment, not only could your company experience decreases in sales numbers, but your company could also see protests and other public events (in the most extreme cases). Therefore, the question becomes, how does your company create a positive business image?

Advertising is one way to create a positive public image. Advertising has many functions, including raising public awareness for your products, soliciting potential customers, and ultimately, creating sales. However, you can also use advertising (whether in the form of press releases or other public statements, such as new stories) in order to disclose your positive acts on the community and the environment.

Remember, however, the old adage that "actions speak louder than words." Therefore, do not merely suggest to the public that your company is going to do something that is beneficial to the community, the environment, or both. In other words, do not talk about what you are going to do, just do what you are going to do to improve the community and/or the environment. If you talk and do not act, this could create sever public backlash. Your company could be dubbed as "dishonest" in this circumstance. This is definitely something that you want to avoid at all costs.

Word of mouth advertising is another great way to create a positive public image. People usually trust the opinion of their friends and family. Therefore, if your company can create a positive buzz, your customers may do a lot of the advertising work for you.

Take action to make your community and/or the environment a better, cleaner place. These things will help make your company establish a positive public image and thus, could result in increased sales and increased recognition in the marketplace.
