I can give credit where credit is due and say that Joe Francis, creator of the empire known as "Girls Gone Wild", is a genius. Not just any idiot can come up with a way to cash in on hormonal guys and drunken girls. Oh, but wait. What's that? Didn't he go to court for filming underage women and commit other crimes while doing time? Maybe he isn't so smart after all.
The "Girls Gone Wild" franchise sickens me. When I see advertisements late at night for the numerous DVDs, I see young women who are lost. They went to Cancun or wherever to have a great time, got drunk, and ended up by revealing their most private of parts to the entire world. And some of them are not even old enough to buy scratch tickets. In the meantime, Francis becomes a millionaire.
While most of the girls shown are most likely intoxicated, I'm sure there is a good number of them who were fully aware of what they were doing. I'm convinced that most of these girls have low self-esteem and are willing to do almost anything to get attention. But there are better ways of making ourselves feel better, ladies.
It seems as though women have taken a step back in society. We have come so far from the times where we had to be covered from head to toe. We no longer stand behind the men in our lives. This generation has never seen the times when women couldn't even vote. We have grown so much as a culture. Hillary Clinton, for example, has made efforts to get into the White House as President of the United States, and a great portion of America has backed her up. Do we really need to flash our way to the top to sell a DVD that costs $9.99 for two? I would say we are well past that.
I understand that it is acceptable for women to be open about sexuality. But that does not mean that we have to make out with other women for the camera. Instead, we must explore our sexuality in a more appropriate way...in private.
I am not religious by any means. But I know that our body is our temple, and Joe Francis has desecrated it with the help of bad judgment, alcohol and probably drugs. It is time we took back what is holy and let those DVDs and VHS tapes burn in the depths of Hell.
